Job Purpose
The Nutrition Analyst will play a crucial role in strengthening WFP's capacity and that of its government counterparts in conducting vital nutrition analyses, such as Fill the Nutrient Gap and Sustainable Healthy Diet assessments. This position involves providing technical oversight, mentoring junior team members, and developing training materials for the Enhance analytical platform. The analyst will support the collation and analysis of data on food expenditure, dietary intake, and market functionality to assess the feasibility of meeting nutritional needs, particularly for children. A key responsibility will be to translate analytical findings into actionable programme design, transfer value setting, and policy-relevant decision-support products, ultimately contributing to evidence-based decision-making and improved nutrition outcomes for vulnerable populations.
Responsibilities
The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking a Nutrition Analyst consultant to strengthen government capacity in conducting vital food and nutrition analyses. This role involves providing technical oversight and mentoring to junior team members, ensuring the quality and consistency of analytical work. The consultant will assess market-based nutrition interventions and local food solutions, including reviewing data on food expenditure, dietary intake, and market functionality. A key responsibility is analyzing the feasibility of meeting nutritional needs for malnourished children and evaluating the adequacy of food and cash-based transfers. The position requires developing and leading training sessions on using the Enhance analytical platform for cost and affordability analysis and intervention modeling, and supporting the establishment of monitoring systems for early warning and anticipatory action. The consultant will also conduct secondary data reviews, quantitative analysis for Fill the Nutrient Gap and Sustainable Healthy Diet assessments, and provide technical support to WFP Country Offices and national stakeholders. This includes identifying and assessing program and policy options, contributing to new analytical methods, and developing decision-support and advocacy products that translate findings into actionable recommendations. The role emphasizes building national capacity for evidence-based decision-making in nutrition.
Work Experience
Requires 6-8 years of relevant professional experience, with at least 3-4 years specifically in food and nutrition data analysis. Experience with dietary assessment and nutrition modeling tools, such as linear programming-based methods (Cost of the Diet, Optifood, Enhance), is essential. Management or supervision experience is desired.
