Job Purpose
The Logistics Assistant (Cross-Border Ops) will play a crucial role in supporting WFP's humanitarian response operations, particularly in cross-border contexts. This position involves assisting in the assessment, planning, implementation, and coordination of logistics activities essential for delivering food assistance. The role requires managing tendering processes, contract awards, and monitoring contractor performance to ensure efficient service delivery. Additionally, the incumbent will oversee daily warehouse operations, including the receipt, storage, and documentation of food aid, and coordinate distributions in collaboration with staff and local authorities. Accurate and timely reporting is vital for effective program monitoring and operational improvement. This role demands strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively under pressure to ensure the smooth flow of humanitarian aid.
Responsibilities
This position is central to supporting humanitarian logistics, covering all phases from initial assessment and strategic planning to hands-on implementation and inter-agency coordination. A core duty involves meticulously preparing proposals for food assistance, which are developed based on thorough needs assessments and adherence to established guidelines. The role also encompasses the critical management of the tendering process, overseeing contract awards, and rigorously monitoring contractor performance to guarantee the effective and timely delivery of food assistance. Daily warehouse activities, including the precise receipt and secure storage of food aid, are coordinated and monitored, with strict attention to proper documentation. Organizing and coordinating food aid distributions is another vital aspect, requiring close collaboration with fellow staff members and local authorities to ensure seamless and efficient operations on the ground. Continuous collaboration with the Operations team is essential for maintaining smooth warehouse functionality and proactively resolving any emerging operational issues. Furthermore, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely reporting, which is fundamental for effective programme monitoring and driving continuous improvements in operations. The role also includes undertaking other duties as assigned, contributing to the broader humanitarian mission.
Work Experience
Requires a university degree in a relevant field and at least two years of experience in supply chain management, warehousing, or logistics, preferably within a humanitarian context. Experience managing warehouses and large teams is essential. Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills are necessary, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office. Knowledge of SAP or other ERP systems is a plus.
