Job Purpose
The Facilities Management Engineer (P2) will provide essential expertise in facilities management and engineering to ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of buildings at WFP's Global Headquarters and country offices. This role involves managing day-to-day maintenance contracts, monitoring contractor performance, and supporting the uninterrupted functionality of critical building systems like HVAC, power, and water. The engineer will also contribute to optimizing energy and resource use through sustainable practices, promote a safe working environment, and support infrastructure improvement projects. Additionally, the position requires providing technical advice to field offices, conducting site assessments, and contributing to preparedness actions and risk management. The role is crucial for maintaining safe, efficient, and compliant facilities that support WFP's vital humanitarian mission.
Responsibilities
The Facilities Management Engineer at the World Food Programme (WFP) is responsible for providing essential expertise in facilities management and engineering to ensure the efficient operation of building management services for both Global Headquarters and country offices. This role involves overseeing the day-to-day administration of maintenance and facility management contracts, monitoring contractor performance, and managing utilities contracts. A key aspect is ensuring the uninterrupted functionality of critical building systems, such as HVAC, power, and water, and responding effectively to emergencies to minimize disruption. The engineer will also focus on optimizing energy and resource use through sustainable practices and reporting on environmental performance. Additionally, the position supports project management for infrastructure improvements, including cost estimation, scheduling, and contractor supervision. Field support is crucial, involving providing technical advice to remote offices and conducting site assessments to ensure facilities meet safety and operational standards. The role requires adherence to WFP policies, Italian norms, and best practices, promoting a safe working environment, and maintaining strong partnerships with internal and external clients. The engineer will also contribute to preparedness actions and risk management related to facilities.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of three years of post-graduate professional experience in operations and maintenance. Additionally, one year of experience with Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems in large-scale buildings (minimum 20,000 sqm) is necessary. Experience in contract management and procurement procedures is also required.
