Job Purpose
The JPO Logistics Officer will support the Western and Central Africa Regional Office (WACARO) in planning and executing supply chain operations, particularly in response to growing humanitarian needs and logistical challenges. The role involves contributing to the development of logistics plans and processes, gathering and analyzing data on regional logistics, and recommending improvements to senior staff. The officer will also manage operational aspects of the supply chain, provide technical guidance to country offices, and support capacity building for WFP staff and partners. This position is crucial for ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries in a dynamic and demanding region, contributing to WFP's mission of saving lives and changing lives.
Responsibilities
The JPO Logistics Officer role involves contributing to the development and execution of logistics plans and processes, ensuring compliance with WFP standards. This includes supporting or managing logistics projects and operational activities to facilitate the effective delivery of food assistance. The officer will gather and analyze data on regional logistics, identifying bottlenecks and recommending improvements to senior staff. Responsibilities also encompass managing operational aspects of the supply chain, such as procurement, shipping, and port operations, as well as providing technical support to country offices, especially during emergencies. The role requires contributing to accurate reporting, including Key Performance Indicators, and supporting capacity building for WFP staff and partners. Additionally, the JPO will foster relationships with logistics colleagues, participate in emergency preparedness, and update key logistics procedures and maps. The position aims to develop a well-rounded Logistics Officer with thorough knowledge of WFP processes, capable of providing technical and operational support across the region, conducting field missions, and producing essential documentation.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of two years of professional experience in logistics or supply chain. Candidates should possess strong organizational, time management, and communication skills, with the ability to plan ahead, manage competing priorities, and meet tight deadlines. Basic knowledge of logistics operations and humanitarian reform is necessary, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. A willingness to work in challenging environments is also essential.
