UNICEF Innocenti has a dedicated research team focused on generating evidence about the impacts of digital technologies on children's rights and wellbeing, with a portfolio of work in over 50 countries.

Job Purpose

The Research Officer (Digital) will support UNICEF Innocenti's Digital Engagement and Protection (DEP) Unit in its research on online protection and digital engagement. The role involves contributing to ongoing research on technology-facilitated child sexual exploitation and abuse, and supporting the inception phase of a new longitudinal research project. Key responsibilities include leading statistical analysis of survey data, supporting quantitative research design, and assisting with mixed-methods integration and analysis. The officer will also draft publications such as research reports, policy briefs, and journal articles, utilizing primary and secondary data to address strategic priorities related to children's digital engagement and protection.

Responsibilities

Lead statistical analysis of survey data related to technology-facilitated sexual exploitation and abuse. Support the quantitative research design for the inception phase of a new longitudinal research project exploring children's risks and opportunities in a digital world. Provide support for mixed-methods integration and analysis for the unit’s qualitative research, collaborating with supervisors and team members. Draft various publications, including research reports, policy briefs, and journal articles, using primary and/or secondary data. Respond to strategic priorities and dialogue within UNICEF and globally concerning children’s digital engagement and protection. Contribute to the generation of evidence on the impacts of digital technologies on children's rights and wellbeing. Assist in the design and implementation of primary data collection efforts. Ensure research methodologies are robust and data analysis is accurate. Disseminate research findings to relevant stakeholders, including policymakers and practitioners. Stay abreast of current trends and developments in digital technologies and child protection.

Work Experience

At least 2 years of relevant work experience in research, child protection, digital safety, quantitative research, statistical analysis, survey research, data management, or policy analysis. Experience with specific software and datasets, working in developing countries or multicultural environments, and in fragile or humanitarian contexts are considered assets.
