Job Purpose
The Associate Communication Officer will support the implementation and adaptation of communication and advocacy strategies for the Man and Biosphere (MAB) Programme's extrabudgetary projects. This role involves developing and producing a wide range of communication materials to increase project and prize visibility and aid resource mobilization. The officer will contribute to public awareness campaigns, monitor and evaluate communication activities, and prepare analytical reports on performance and achievements. Additionally, the position requires developing and maintaining information networks, ensuring public access to project-related materials, and supporting the production of written communications such as news items, reports, and brochures for prize management. The role also includes content development for digital platforms and collaboration with various stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Develop and produce diverse communication and information materials to enhance project and prize visibility and support resource mobilization efforts. Design and implement public awareness campaigns to highlight the Division's extrabudgetary projects. Monitor and evaluate communication activities, tracking performance indicators, assessing impact, and preparing analytical reports on outputs and achievements. Develop and maintain information networks, ensuring the availability of publicly accessible materials related to the Division's projects. Support the production of written communication materials, including online news items, reports, and brochures for effective prize management. Contribute to content development for websites, social media platforms, and mobile applications. Collaborate closely with communication officers and Programme Specialists at UNESCO Headquarters and Field Offices. Participate in inter-agency communication forums to promote Division Programme projects. Ensure effective promotion of project initiatives across various media channels, conferences, and workshops. Facilitate information exchange, share insights on communication trends, and support communication with colleagues within and beyond the Section, including Field Offices, UN agencies, and external partners.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in advocacy and communication is necessary, with at least one year gained at the international level. Experience with UNESCO, the UN System, or other international organizations in communication activities is desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in analytical, drafting, and editing is essential, along with the ability to adapt communication styles for different audiences. Strong cross-cultural and interpersonal skills are required. Candidates must be proficient in website management and social media, possess excellent computer skills, and have experience creating engaging digital content, including video editing and infographics. The ability to work effectively in a multicultural team and proven experience in partnership engagement and campaign evaluation are crucial.
