Job Purpose
The Behavior Change Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the design and implementation of strategies to promote behavior change related to environmental issues, sustainable tourism, and heritage conservation in Cusco and Urubamba, Peru. This involves fostering engagement among local communities, tourism operators, and visitors, and enhancing environmental consciousness. The specialist will develop innovative campaigns, drawing on successful experiences from the Republic of Korea and adapting them to the local socio-cultural context. Additionally, the role involves acting as a strategic liaison between UNESCO Peru, KOICA, and other Korean entities to facilitate knowledge transfer and enhance project visibility and collaboration.
Responsibilities
Support the design, implementation, and evaluation of awareness-raising and behavior change strategies aligned with project objectives and UNESCO/KOICA guidelines, promoting sustainable practices in waste management and the circular economy. Develop and coordinate educational and awareness campaigns using innovative approaches and digital technologies to engage key stakeholders. Assist in creating communication and educational materials, ensuring cultural relevance and gender equality. Serve as a technical and cultural liaison between UNESCO Peru, KOICA, and relevant institutions, sharing best practices. Facilitate meetings with stakeholders to align project messages. Develop monitoring and evaluation systems to measure activity impact. Support translation of key documents between Spanish/English and Korean. Advise on strategic awareness plans for project sustainability. Actively contribute to team activities, fostering a collaborative environment.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional experience in international cooperation projects in Latin America related to environmental management, tourism, or cultural heritage is required. Alternatively, two years of experience implementing participatory methodologies and behavior change campaigns in multicultural environments is acceptable.
Skills
Proven experience in applying and monitoring behavior change methodologies. Knowledge of designing digital strategies for awareness-raising and environmental education campaigns. Proficiency in using social media and digital platforms for community engagement. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to synthesize information and write clearly. Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to manage work under pressure. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse national and international partners. Experience in promoting sustainable practices and waste reduction is desirable.
