Job Purpose
The Programme Analyst, Ending Violence Against Women, contributes to UN Women's mission by supporting the development and implementation of EVAW Flagship Programmes and joint UN initiatives across Africa. This role is crucial for strengthening regional coordination among UN agencies, ensuring effective roll-out of programs, and informing donor reporting. The analyst will provide essential technical inputs for policy papers, annual work plans, and communication materials related to VAW/G and maternal health initiatives. A key purpose is to synthesize and disseminate good practices and lessons learned, thereby informing the next generation of programs and enhancing advocacy efforts. The role also involves conducting research, developing knowledge products, supporting resource mobilization strategies, and fostering partnerships to eliminate violence against women and girls and promote sexual reproductive health and rights. This position directly contributes to advancing gender equality and women's empowerment in the region.
Responsibilities
The Programme Analyst will primarily support the development and implementation of EVAW Flagship Programmes. This involves assisting in strengthening and coordinating UN agencies' regional actions, compiling information for donor reports, and updating UN Women's intranet with EVAW content. The role includes implementing high-impact advocacy activities, providing technical inputs for policy papers and communication materials on Flagship and Joint UN initiatives, particularly those related to maternal health and the Spotlight Initiative. A key duty is to synthesize and disseminate good practices and lessons learned to inform future program development, alongside organizing webinars and fostering new partnerships. Additionally, the analyst will support the Ending Violence against Women Section by conducting research and analysis to develop knowledge products, including drafting conceptual papers, briefings, and reports for senior management. Responsibilities extend to supporting the drafting and monitoring of annual work plans and budgets, contributing to communication materials, and representing the section in meetings. The role also involves contributing to partnership building and resource mobilization strategies, providing inputs for project documentation, advocacy efforts, and knowledge management products, and performing other assigned tasks.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of paid work experience in relevant fields such as development programme/project implementation, coordination, monitoring, evaluation, donor reporting, or capacity building is required. Some experience in development project/programme management, particularly in gender equality and violence against women and girls (EVAW/G), is highly desirable. Experience coordinating and liaising with government agencies and/or donors is an asset. Familiarity with the UN System is desirable, with UN system experience not exceeding one year.
Skills
Strong interest/experience in African development and gender issues. Excellent drafting, editing, and report-clearing skills. Very strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities, including data interpretation and evidence generation. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills across all organizational levels. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines under pressure. Versatility and adaptability to multicultural, fast-paced global environments, with a strong client service orientation.
