Organizational Context

These positions are within the Sustainable Stock Exchanges Programme (SSEP) of the Division on Investment and Enterprise (DIAE) at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The Associate Economic Affairs Officers will report directly to the Chief of Programme, contributing to the organization's mandate in investment and sustainable development.

Job Purpose

The Associate Economic Affairs Officers will conduct economic and sector analysis related to responsible investment for sustainable development, focusing on the role of sustainable stock exchanges. Responsibilities include collecting and analyzing socio-economic data, maintaining databases, preparing research inputs for reports and policy studies, and contributing to awareness campaigns. They will also assist in organizing expert meetings and events. Furthermore, incumbents will support technical cooperation by compiling data for project proposals, preparing documentation for training programs, and monitoring project implementation. The role involves performing administrative tasks and participating in training activities to enhance their professional development and contribute to the unit's work program.

Responsibilities

Conduct economic and sector analysis by collecting, evaluating, and interpreting socio-economic statistics and qualitative information on responsible investment and sustainable development, particularly concerning sustainable stock exchanges. Maintain and manage databases, organizing non-quantitative information. Prepare briefing notes, speeches, and drafts for analytical studies on responsible investment issues and policies. Contribute to awareness campaigns via social media and other channels. Assist in organizing and servicing expert group meetings, seminars, and events. Compile and analyze data for technical cooperation project proposals in investment for sustainable development. Prepare documentation for technical cooperation programs and online training projects. Support the monitoring, backstopping, and assessment of technical cooperation program implementation. Perform other related duties, including administrative tasks, and undertake on-the-job and external training.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, or applying economic principles in development programs is required. Experience with investment issues, stock exchange officials, security market regulators, and sustainable finance principles is desirable. Experience in training on stock exchange sustainability and managing related databases is also desirable.
