Organizational Context

This position is within the Economic Cooperation and Trade Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in Geneva, Switzerland. The role supports an extra-budgetary project focused on enhancing the traceability of sustainable value chains for the green transition. The Associate Economic Affairs Officer reports to a P4 Economic Affairs Officer.

Job Purpose

The Associate Economic Affairs Officer is responsible for conducting economic and sector analysis, interpreting socio-economic information related to ESG transparency and sustainable value chains, and preparing relevant briefing materials. The role involves supporting intergovernmental processes, including servicing the UNECE Team of Specialists on ESG Transparency and Traceability for Sustainable Value Chains. Additionally, the position contributes to technical cooperation by compiling data, preparing project proposals, and monitoring program implementation. The officer will also assist in organizing development-related events and perform other duties as required to ensure the delivery of the work unit's services.

Responsibilities

Key duties include performing economic and sector analysis, interpreting qualitative socio-economic data on ESG transparency and sustainable value chains, and preparing briefing notes and speeches for non-specialists. The role involves supporting intergovernmental bodies by assisting senior staff, preparing reports, summarizing meetings, and contributing to statements. The officer will also aid in organizing panels and round tables. In technical cooperation, responsibilities include compiling data for project proposals, preparing project documentation, and monitoring program implementation. General duties encompass performing other related tasks and participating in training activities.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of progressive experience in economic research, analysis, policy formulation, or development program application is required. At least one year of experience specifically in ESG transparency and traceability of sustainable value chains is also necessary. Experience within the UN or similar international organizations, and in data analytics, is desirable.
