Organizational Context
The Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM), established by the Human Rights Council, operates in Geneva, Switzerland, within the Collection, Analysis and Sharing Section (CASS). This role supports the IIMM's mandate by contributing to evidence collection and analysis. The position reports to the Information Analyst (Open Source), P4.
Job Purpose
This role supports the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM) by assisting in the development of research and analysis strategies. The incumbent will conduct research to identify relevant evidence and open-source information, organizing and synthesizing data to advance investigations, support requests for assistance, and build cases. Key responsibilities include preliminary review and analysis of information in English and Myanmar languages, potentially using analytical software, and gathering, evaluating, and analyzing information to identify relevance, gaps, and inconsistencies. The role also involves maintaining internal databases, utilizing information management systems for evidence collection and preservation, and participating in briefings and conferences with internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Assist in developing research and analysis strategies, identifying relevant evidence and open-source information to support analytical products. Organize and synthesize information to advance IIMM investigations, responses to requests for assistance, and case-building activities. Conduct preliminary review and analysis of information in English and Myanmar languages, utilizing analytical software to support investigations into crimes within the IIMM's mandate. Gather, collect, evaluate, and analyze information to determine relevance, identify information gaps or inconsistencies, and inform investigative decisions. Maintain and update internal databases, using information management and electronic systems for evidence collection and preservation for case files and support of criminal investigations or prosecutions. Participate in briefings and conferences with IIMM personnel and external partners, including investigative, prosecutorial, and judicial authorities, civil society, and UN entities.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive experience in collecting and analyzing information on serious international crimes (war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide) is required. Experience in open-source analysis, including social media monitoring related to Myanmar, is also required. Experience with sexual and gender-based crimes, crimes against children, analytical software, or investigative/prosecutorial bodies is desirable.
