Associate Interpreter, Russian/Ukrainian
Organizational Context
This position is within the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine, based in Vienna, Austria. The incumbent will report to the Coordinator of the Secretariat of the Commission, contributing to its investigative mandate and operational activities.
Job Purpose
The Associate Interpreter will provide accurate simultaneous interpretation and translation between English, Russian, and Ukrainian, ensuring gender-sensitive language integration, particularly concerning sexual and gender-based violence documentation. This role involves participating in field missions to interpret interviews with victims, witnesses, and sources. Additionally, the incumbent will support data collection and analysis, identifying trends and patterns, and contributing to reports through data visualization methods to aid in planning, decision-making, and presentations. The position requires maintaining strict confidentiality and performing other related duties as assigned to support the Commission's objectives.
Responsibilities
Provide accurate simultaneous interpretation and translation between English, Russian, and Ukrainian, integrating a gender perspective, especially in documenting sexual and gender-based violence. Maintain strict security and confidentiality of all information. Participate in field missions to interpret interviews with victims, witnesses, and sources. Contribute to data collection and analysis, identifying trends and patterns. Prepare draft insights using graphs, charts, tables, and reports with data visualization methods for planning, decision-making, and presentations. Perform other related duties as required to support the Commission's work.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional experience in translation and/or interpretation is required. Experience within the United Nations Common System is desirable. Experience in interpretation during investigations or on human rights-related subjects is also desirable.
