Associate Coordination Officer (Temporary)
Organizational Context
This position is within the Office of the Director, Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA) at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna, Austria. The role reports to the Programme Management Officer and operates under the Director's guidance, contributing to UNODC's mandate.
Job Purpose
The Associate Coordination Officer will significantly contribute to the policy coordination functions of the Director's Office by managing and processing information, demands, and issues. This role involves close collaboration with the Division's Branches to support the Director in developing, coordinating, and monitoring the Division's work program across various areas, including public affairs, policy support, research, trend analysis, and scientific services. The incumbent will also coordinate the preparation and submission of essential documentation, support monitoring and reporting systems, and provide substantive input for policy coordination and evaluation functions, ensuring the effective implementation of the divisional work plan and strategic objectives.
Responsibilities
The Associate Coordination Officer is responsible for supporting the Director in developing, coordinating, and monitoring the Division's work program, encompassing Public Affairs, Policy Support, Research and Trend Analysis, and Scientific Services. Key duties include coordinating the timely preparation, review, and submission of briefing notes, reports, and other written outputs for the Director and the Executive Office. The role involves providing expertise for the development and implementation of monitoring and reporting systems, and offering substantive support for policy coordination and evaluation, including analyzing emerging issues and trends. The incumbent will develop the divisional work plan, facilitate its implementation, document achievements, and draft reports on strategic management and policy matters. Additionally, the role provides backstopping for intergovernmental processes, supports monitoring and follow-up systems, manages records, stays updated on drug control and crime prevention issues, and contributes to data analysis and visualization for planning and reporting.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional experience in coordination, program management, and results-based management related to drug control, crime prevention, or criminal justice is required. Alternatively, successful completion of the YPP, NCRE, or G to P exam is sufficient. Experience supporting high-level officials with documentation, coordinating events, developing monitoring systems, and working within the UN system is desirable.
