ASSOCIATE INFORMATION ANALYST (TJO)

Organizational Context

This position is within the Judicial Support and Cooperation Section of the International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism (IIIM) in Geneva. The role aims to enhance cooperation with the Independent Institution on Missing Persons for Syria (IIMP) by facilitating the sharing of relevant information for the search for missing persons. The Associate Information Analyst reports to the JSCS Legal Officer overseeing the missing persons portfolio.

Job Purpose

The Associate Information Analyst's primary purpose is to strengthen cooperation between the IIIM and the IIMP by facilitating the appropriate sharing of information related to missing persons in Syria. This involves developing research and analysis strategies, identifying relevant information from IIIM repositories and open sources, and evaluating data to identify gaps and inform decisions. The role supports transitional justice efforts by contributing to the search for missing persons and the memorialization of the Syrian conflict. Key functions include organizing and synthesizing information using analytical software, maintaining databases, managing information processes, and preparing information packages for the IIMP, including obtaining source consent.

Responsibilities

The Associate Information Analyst will assist in developing research and analysis strategies, identifying relevant information from IIIM repositories and open sources to support the search for missing persons in Syria and memorialization efforts. Responsibilities include evaluating and analyzing information to determine relevance and identify gaps, informing decisions related to the search for missing individuals. The role involves organizing and synthesizing information and evidence using analytical software to produce relevant analytical products for proactive sharing with the IIMP. Additionally, the incumbent will maintain and update IIIM's internal databases, manage information using electronic systems, and prepare information packages for transfer to the IIMP, including assisting in the process of obtaining consent from information sources.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of progressive work experience in information analysis is required, specifically within the context of missing persons, criminal investigations, international humanitarian law, human rights, or concerning the Middle East/North Africa region. Experience with eDiscovery, big data investigations, analytical software, the Syrian conflict, or evidence review is desirable.

Skills

Demonstrated analytical skills, ability to work in a high-tech environment, familiarity with research methodologies and digital sources, strong communication (written and verbal), and effective teamwork are essential. Proficiency in English and Arabic is required.
