Organizational Context
The Human Security Unit (HSU) promotes human security within the UN system, focusing on peace, development, and human rights. It manages the UN Trust Fund for Human Security (UNTFHS), advances human security as a cross-cutting approach, and expands support for its implementation. The Unit is guided by the Executive Office of the Secretary-General and administered by the Department of Operational Support.
Job Purpose
The Associate Programme Management Officer will support the Human Security Unit (HSU) in its mission to mainstream human security across UN activities. This role is crucial for managing the UNTFHS, advancing human security principles in policy and operations, and fostering broader support. The position involves coordinating administrative, financial, and programme activities, ensuring the effective functioning of the Unit and its trust fund. The officer will contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes, conduct research, and provide essential support for meetings and reporting, thereby facilitating the HSU's objectives and its contribution to peace, development, and human rights.
Responsibilities
Administer HSU activities, serving as a focal point for coordination, including managing travel, accounts, vendor payments, and office technology needs. Draft correspondence on financial, budget, and programme matters. Coordinate budget and funding activities for UNTFHS programmes, preparing related documents and reports. Support the Finance and Budget Officer by monitoring expenditures, preparing adjustments, and assisting with cost plan implementation. Aid in preparing Umoja Master Data, transactions, and reports, as well as Power BI dashboards and Excel databases. Participate in programme/project development, implementation, and evaluation, monitoring progress, identifying issues, and proposing solutions. Conduct basic research, collect and analyze data, and maintain HSU databases. Maintain programme files and financial databases, assisting in data analysis for trends and best practices. Provide administrative and substantive support for meetings and conferences, including logistics and documentation.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of experience in administration, budget/financial management, or project/programme management is required. No experience is needed for candidates who have passed the UN YPP, NCRE, or G to P exams. Experience with Microsoft Power BI and other MS Office applications is desirable.
