Organizational Context
The Resident Coordinator (RC) in Fiji leads the UN development system at the country level, coordinating UN entities and ensuring accountability for the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework. Job Purpose
The Resident Coordinator (RC) serves as the highest-ranking UN representative at the country level, leading UN Country Teams to implement the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and coordinate UN support for the 2030 Agenda. The role involves representing the UN to government and partners, advocating for SDGs, and fostering strategic partnerships. The RC ensures system-wide accountability, supports agency goals, and promotes UN values, human rights, and gender equality. They also coordinate UN contributions to analysis, facilitate resource access, and enhance strategic communication to advance UN system efforts and collective results. In specific contexts, the RC may lead humanitarian responses and integrate UN work with peacekeeping missions.
Responsibilities
Represent the UN at the highest levels, engaging with government, civil society, and partners to advance the 2030 Agenda and SDGs. Lead the UN Country Team in developing, monitoring, and implementing the UN Cooperation Framework. Coordinate UN system-wide support, identify risks, and mitigate challenges to SDG achievement. Support and advocate for UNCT member agencies. Coordinate context and trend analysis, including Common Country Analysis. Promote UN Charter values, human rights, gender equality, and the SDG commitment to leave no one behind. Forge strategic partnerships with diverse national and sub-national entities. Advance regional knowledge-sharing and collaboration. Leverage UN system expertise to improve shared results and address SDG gaps. Provide oversight for country financing instruments and pursue funding for joint UN efforts. Lead engagement on the UN's normative agenda and foster an enabling environment for collaboration and knowledge sharing. Facilitate access to resources for innovation in sustainable development. Enhance strategic communication to promote the 2030 Agenda. Coordinate country-level security as Designated Official. Promote staff learning and implement policies on PSEA and gender parity. Manage dual reporting systems and advance common business operations. Lead humanitarian responses when required and integrate UNCT work with peacekeeping missions.
Work Experience
A minimum of 15 years of substantive international leadership experience is required, including at least five years in development, human rights, rule of law, peacebuilding, or humanitarian work at the country level outside one's own country. Previous Resident Coordinator experience, humanitarian program management, disaster/emergency response coordination, and experience in diverse environments are desirable.
