Organizational Context
The International Trade Centre (ITC) aims to transform trade and change lives by enabling trade-led economic development, particularly in the Global South. This role is within the Sector and Enterprise Competitiveness Section (SEC), supporting the Making Trade Happen (MTH) project. MTH focuses on building SME capacity to navigate global trade complexities and export to the UK market under specific trade schemes, fostering strategic partnerships and commercial matchmaking.
Job Purpose
The Associate Programme Officer will support the Making Trade Happen (MTH) project and other SEC initiatives focused on market entry and trade development. The role involves facilitating program/project development, implementation, and evaluation, conducting research, and providing substantive support for policy coordination. Key responsibilities include assisting clients in developing action plans, preparing analytical and written outputs, supporting meetings and outreach activities, and coordinating budget-related activities. The purpose is to enhance the capacity of SMEs to successfully engage in international trade, particularly by helping them overcome compliance barriers related to ESG standards, SPS protocols, and Rules of Origin.
Responsibilities
Facilitate the development, implementation, and evaluation of assigned programmes and projects, monitoring progress, identifying issues, and recommending corrective actions. Conduct basic research, collect and analyze data, and present findings. Provide substantive support for policy coordination and evaluation, including analyzing emerging trends. Assist in consulting assignments by facilitating workshops and developing action plans. Support survey initiatives, including tool design, data collection, and analysis. Contribute to various written outputs such as background papers, reports, and publications. Provide administrative and substantive support for meetings and conferences. Undertake outreach activities, including developing and delivering training workshops. Participate in field missions for substantive and administrative support. Coordinate activities related to budget funding, project preparation, and reporting.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in project/programme management or administration is required. This requirement increases to four years for candidates with a first-level university degree. Experience within the UN common system, supporting SMEs in Africa and the Middle East, developing communication materials, or organizing trade events is desirable.
