Principal Coordination Officer
Organizational Context
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in Kabul seeks a Principal Coordination Officer for its Integrated Office. This role reports to the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator (DSRSG/RC/HC) and collaborates closely with the Political pillar. The Integrated Office encompasses Aid Coordination, Resident Coordinator's Office, Risk Management, and Mine Action, overseeing units within the Mission's Development pillar.
Job Purpose
The Principal Coordination Officer supports the DSRSG/RC/HC in managing the Integrated Office's substantive work program, ensuring timely execution of activities and coordinating efforts within the office and with other UN entities. This role involves leading and supervising staff, conducting programmatic reviews on aid coordination, accountability, resource mobilization, and policy development. The officer is responsible for ensuring high-quality outputs, managing administrative tasks including budgeting and performance reporting, and fostering teamwork. They will also represent the Integrated Office in meetings, provide substantive expertise, and lead data analysis efforts to inform planning and decision-making, ensuring effective coordination support to the UN Country Team (UNCT).
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include supporting the DSRSG/RC/HC, formulating and implementing the Integrated Office's work program, and overseeing its activities and management. This involves coordinating work within the office and with external UN organizations, providing substantive reviews on aid coordination, accountability, resource mobilization, and policy development. The role requires reporting to intergovernmental bodies, ensuring efficient coordination support, and supervising staff. The officer must ensure high-quality outputs, manage administrative tasks such as budgeting and performance reporting, recruit staff, and guide team development. Additionally, they will lead and organize meetings, represent the office internationally, and oversee data collection and analysis for strategic planning and decision-making.
Work Experience
A minimum of fifteen years of experience in strategic planning, sustainable development policy, project/programme management, and resource mobilization is required. Five years of experience in conflict/post-conflict settings, humanitarian/development/peace nexus coordination, and experience within the UN system or a comparable international organization are also necessary. Experience coordinating external partnerships is required, with prior work in Afghanistan being desirable.
