Organizational Context
The Geneva Branch of the Office for Disarmament Affairs provides support to disarmament conferences, review meetings, and treaty-making processes. This role reports to the Senior Political Affairs Officer and contributes to the branch's mandate of supporting multilateral arms control, disarmament, and non-proliferation agreements.
Job Purpose
The Associate Political Affairs Officer will analyze information on disarmament, non-proliferation, and arms control, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant events. The role involves assisting senior officials with briefing materials, preparing summaries and correspondence, and monitoring developments in disarmament and emerging technologies. Additionally, the position supports the branch's programs, digital information management, and outreach initiatives, contributing to the overall objectives of the Office for Disarmament Affairs.
Responsibilities
Analyze information from various sources, including press, to maintain current knowledge on disarmament, non-proliferation, and arms control. Assist Political Affairs Officers and senior officials by preparing briefing notes, background papers, and talking points. Summarize articles from diverse sources, draft correspondence, and contribute to reports. Monitor developments related to disarmament, non-proliferation, arms control, and the weaponization of emerging technologies. Provide input to branch programs and support digital information management and outreach efforts. Perform other related duties as required.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in political science, international relations, public administration, international law, or development is required. Substantive experience in disarmament matters and multilateral diplomacy is essential. Experience in event coordination, drafting official documents, and political/legal research and analysis is desirable.
