ASSOCIATE STATISTICIAN (Temporary Job Opening) 50%
Organizational Context
This part-time (50%) Associate Statistician position is within the Statistics and Data Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). The role reports to the Division Director and is initially available for three months, with potential for extension. The division focuses on statistical data and analysis.
Job Purpose
The Associate Statistician will support the Statistics and Data Division in its mandate by assisting with various data-related activities. This includes providing training and technical support on data collection programs, particularly in climate change, environment, and sustainable development. The role involves contributing to the organization of workshops and expert meetings, conducting methodological research for guidelines and standards, and preparing technical documents for intergovernmental bodies. A key aspect is analyzing and visualizing data to identify trends and provide insights for decision-making, as well as assisting in the management of statistical databases. The position also involves guiding junior staff.
Responsibilities
The Associate Statistician will provide training and technical support for data collection programs, country practices, and information related to climate change, environment, and sustainable development. Responsibilities include assisting in the organization of workshops, seminars, and expert meetings. The role involves conducting methodological research to develop or revise guidelines, tools, and standards for statistical concepts and classifications. The Associate Statistician will prepare draft technical documents for meetings and assist in drafting reports and communication materials. Additionally, the position entails guiding and supervising general service and professional staff, contributing to data analysis and trend identification, and presenting insights through data visualization. The role also supports the design, management, and dissemination of statistical data and databases.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in statistics, finance, or accounting is required. Experience in data analytics or a related field is desirable.
