The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development globally. This role is based in Nairobi, Kenya, focusing on program implementation, monitoring, and evaluation within the Planning and Finance Section.
Job Purpose
This role supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of UN-Habitat programmes and projects, particularly in urban planning and finance. The incumbent will conduct research, provide substantive support for policy coordination, and assist in managing change initiatives. Key contributions include data analysis, report preparation, and supporting consultative meetings. The position also involves contributing to strategic planning and technical advisory for infrastructure programs in crisis contexts, and promoting data-driven decision-making for sustainable urban development, especially in refugee settlements and the humanitarian-development nexus.
Responsibilities
Facilitate the development, implementation, and evaluation of assigned programmes and projects, monitoring progress and identifying issues for corrective action. Conduct basic research, collecting and analyzing statistical data from diverse sources. Provide substantive support for policy coordination and evaluation functions, including reviewing emerging issues and trends. Assist in consulting assignments by facilitating workshops and developing action plans. Participate in survey initiatives, design data collection tools, and analyze responses. Prepare written outputs such as background papers, analytical notes, and reports. Provide administrative and substantive support for meetings and conferences. Undertake outreach activities, including developing and delivering training workshops. Participate in field missions for substantive and administrative support and data collection. Coordinate activities related to budget funding, including programme/project submissions and financial reporting. Provide technical planning and implementation advisory for infrastructure programs in crisis and fragile contexts. Contribute to data analysis and visualization for planning, decision-making, and reporting.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive experience in urban development, planning, and design, with experience in programme and project management assistance. Required experience includes setting documentation standards, guidance, and metrics for large projects. Experience in data analytics is desirable.
