Organizational Context
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is part of the UN Secretariat, responsible for coordinating humanitarian actors to ensure coherent responses to emergencies. Job Purpose
The Associate Communications Officer/Content Creator supports the development and execution of communication strategies to enhance OCHA's advocacy, visibility, and fundraising efforts. This role involves gathering insights from media monitoring to inform strategy, implementing communications that drive engagement and impact, and creating compelling content optimized for various platforms. The position also contributes to developing strategic partnerships, staying abreast of communication trends and technologies, and producing engaging digital content. Additionally, the role assists in developing creative campaign concepts and materials, ensuring all communications align with OCHA's standards and effectively convey the impact of its work.
Responsibilities
Contribute to media monitoring and analysis to inform communications strategy, including identifying public narratives and reputational risks. Implement communications strategies to raise awareness, drive engagement, and achieve measurable impact with target audiences. Create compelling, platform-optimized content for various channels, including social media and digital platforms. Develop and coordinate strategic communications partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. Stay updated on the latest communication trends and emerging technologies. Create and moderate engaging digital content, including live content, to advance digital communications priorities. Assist in developing creative campaign concepts, content, and materials, such as digital and print assets, social media posts, email communications, and multimedia content. Ensure all communication materials effectively convey OCHA's impact and adhere to organizational standards and branding.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in communications, international relations, or a related field is required, or successful completion of specific UN recruitment examinations. Knowledge of digital design and skills in developing creative content are required. Familiarity with current and emerging digital media platforms, principles, and technologies is desirable.
