Organizational Context
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) seeks a Head for its Enterprise Branch within the Division on Investment and Enterprise. This senior role reports directly to the Director of the Division, overseeing a critical area focused on enterprise development and related economic activities within the UN system.
Job Purpose
The Head of the Enterprise Branch is responsible for formulating and executing the Branch's substantive work program, ensuring timely completion of activities, and managing its operations. This includes leading and supervising work units focused on sustainability, accounting, corporate governance, entrepreneurship, and business facilitation. The role involves coordinating efforts within UNCTAD and with other UN entities, preparing reports for intergovernmental bodies, and ensuring the high quality of the Branch's outputs. The position also plays a key administrative role, contributing to budget preparation, resource allocation, staff performance evaluation, and fostering a collaborative work environment. The Head represents the Branch in international forums, providing expert input on enterprise development issues.
Responsibilities
Formulate and implement the Branch's work program, overseeing its activities and ensuring timely execution. Lead and supervise work units covering sustainability, accounting, corporate governance, entrepreneurship, and business facilitation. Coordinate activities within the Division, Department, and with other UN organizations. Oversee the preparation of reports for intergovernmental bodies like the Economic and Social Council and the Trade and Development Board. Report on budget/programme performance and substantive issues related to enterprise development. Ensure high-quality, objective, and data-driven outputs from the Branch. Assist the Director in work program planning, prioritization, and resource allocation. Manage administrative tasks including budget preparation, performance reporting, staff evaluations, and recruitment support. Develop and mentor staff, fostering teamwork and cross-organizational communication. Lead the organization of meetings and seminars on relevant topics. Represent the Branch in international meetings, providing expertise and engaging in discussions on enterprise development.
Work Experience
A minimum of fifteen years of progressively responsible experience in economic research, policy formulation, programme management in enterprise development, or private sector development is required. Prior experience in sustainable resource mobilization is essential. Experience in managing international programs and teams, and facilitating intergovernmental processes within an international organization is desirable.
