The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority. Its Industry and Economy Division encourages sustainable practices. The Life Cycle Initiative, hosted by UNEP, is a multi-stakeholder partnership facilitating the global use of credible life-cycle knowledge. This role is within the Industry and Economy Division, Paris duty station.
Job Purpose
This role supports the Life Cycle Initiative by managing and engaging in technical and scientific discussions with global experts on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) development and application. The incumbent will contribute to the smooth functioning of IT systems for LCA data and impact factors, conduct basic research, and assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of projects to enhance the use of life-cycle approaches. The position also involves contributing to written outputs, organizing meetings, undertaking outreach activities, and coordinating budget-related activities. The goal is to facilitate the application of life-cycle knowledge in the global sustainable development agenda.
Responsibilities
Engage in technical and scientific discussions with global LCA experts and present UNEP's work at conferences. Ensure the smooth operation of IT systems for LCA data and impact factors. Conduct basic research, collect, analyze, and present life-cycle data. Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of projects promoting life-cycle approaches, monitoring progress, and recommending corrective actions. Prepare written outputs such as background papers and reports. Organize meetings and conferences, including logistics and documentation. Undertake outreach activities, develop training workshops, and deliver presentations. Assist in coordinating budget funding activities and preparing related reports. Collect and analyze data to identify trends and provide insights for decision-making using data visualization.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of experience in project management applying life-cycle approaches to Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) or circular economy is required. Experience with LCA data management, formats (JSON, ILCD, ecospold), and using LCA software (SimaPro, GaBi, OpenLCA, Brightway) is mandatory. Experience conveying LCA results to policymakers or international organizations is desirable. One year of data analytics experience is also desirable.
