Organizational Context
The Trade and Market Intelligence (TMI) section, part of the International Trade Centre’s Division of Market Development, develops market research tools and provides training for developing countries. TMI conducts studies and analyses to enhance trade competitiveness and identify diversification opportunities, with a specific focus on supporting value chain diagnostics and prioritization in Africa.
Job Purpose
This role provides analytical support to the Trade and Market Intelligence (TMI) section's work on value chain diagnostics and prioritization, particularly for African economies. The incumbent will collect, evaluate, and analyze economic and sector-specific data, maintaining databases and assisting in the development of econometric models. Responsibilities include preparing draft studies, briefing notes, and reports on development issues and policies, integrating quantitative findings. The role also supports intergovernmental processes by following stakeholder meetings and preparing reports, and contributes to technical cooperation programs by preparing documentation and monitoring project implementation. Additionally, the position involves contributing to data analysis, trend identification, and presenting insights through data visualization for planning and decision-making.
Responsibilities
Conduct economic and sector analysis by collecting, evaluating, and interpreting statistics and socio-economic information, focusing on regional and global value chains in African economies. Maintain databases and manage non-quantitative information. Assist in designing, testing, and modifying econometric models and quantitative methods related to value chain participation, trade flows, and market dynamics. Prepare briefing notes, speeches, and draft components of analytical studies on development issues and policies, particularly value chain diagnostics. Support the organization and servicing of missions and country consultations. Follow stakeholder meetings and prepare summary reports. Assist in organizing panels and round tables on value chain development. Prepare documentation for technical cooperation programs and monitor their implementation. Perform other related duties, including administrative tasks, and contribute to data analysis, trend identification, and reporting using data visualization methods.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, or applying economic principles in development programs, with a trade focus, is required. Four years of experience are required if holding a first-level degree. One year of experience in data analytics is desirable, as is experience with trade development projects, statistical analysis of trade data, and quantitative value chain analysis.

Specific skills include knowledge of the international trading system, trade statistics, trade policy data, trade issues facing developing countries, quantitative value chain analysis, and statistical software (R, Stata, SAS, Python). Ability to identify data sources, conduct research, analyze data, make recommendations, write reports, and use data visualization methods.
