Job Purpose

The Liaison and Policy Officer will provide essential policy, analytical, and liaison support to the Network Secretariat's engagement in New York. This role is crucial for activities related to the follow-up and review of the Global Compact for Migration (GCM) and related General Assembly resolutions. The officer will work in close coordination with colleagues in Geneva, contributing to the planning and implementation of Network activities in New York. This includes preparing briefings, conducting outreach with Member States and stakeholders, and monitoring intergovernmental meetings. The position aims to strengthen the Network's engagement in multilateral processes and support communication efforts with various actors.

Responsibilities

The Liaison and Policy Officer will support the Senior Migration Policy Officer in liaison activities concerning the Global Compact for Migration (GCM) follow-up and review process and related General Assembly resolutions. Responsibilities include planning and implementing Network activities in New York, such as preparing briefings and outreach events with Member States and stakeholders. The role involves drafting and consolidating background documents, monitoring intergovernmental meetings, and maintaining relationships with Permanent Missions. The officer will also contribute to substantive analysis of UN activities relevant to the GCM, prepare analytical inputs, and draft briefing notes and policy papers. Additionally, the role involves coordinating Network workstreams, supporting engagement in multilateral processes, and maintaining communications with civil society and other migration actors.

Work Experience

Required experience includes working within a multilateral environment, preferably within the UN system, with a strong understanding of UN intergovernmental processes. Experience with international agencies, governments, and stakeholders is necessary. Prior experience in organizing UN meetings and professional experience in the migration field, with knowledge of migration frameworks, is essential. Direct experience supporting GCM review is a distinct advantage.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for multicultural environments. Demonstrated analytical, research, and drafting abilities. Capacity to prioritize, plan, organize work, and manage multiple tasks under deadlines. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Sound judgment, initiative, and ability to work independently and collaboratively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and web-based tools.
