Organizational Context
Established in 1951, IOM is a UN-related organization and the leading UN agency in migration. It promotes humane and orderly migration, saves lives, protects people on the move, and drives solutions to displacement. The Project Officer role sits within the Country Office in Burkina Faso, reporting to the Chief of Mission and coordinating with the Regional Office.
Job Purpose
The Project Officer is responsible for coordinating and implementing key IOM programs in Burkina Faso, including the Migrant Protection, Return, and Reintegration Programme (MPRR), Immigration and Border Governance (IBG), and Community Stabilization projects. This role requires direct supervision by the Chief of Mission and coordination with the Regional Office. The purpose is to ensure the effective and timely execution of these projects, contributing to IOM's mandate of promoting humane and orderly migration and supporting people on the move within the country.
Responsibilities
The Project Officer will supervise and coordinate project implementation, ensuring timely execution in line with IOM policies and donor requirements. This includes monitoring project progress, budget, and administrative aspects, as well as overseeing the work of implementing partners. The role involves maintaining close collaboration with government entities, UN agencies, NGOs, and other local partners to enhance project effectiveness. Responsibilities also include managing project information, preparing progress and financial reports, and contributing technical inputs for new project development. The officer will train, guide, and supervise project support teams to achieve project objectives.
Work Experience
Required experience includes project management, implementation, and development, particularly in peacebuilding and community stabilization. Experience liaising with government authorities and national/international institutions is essential. Previous experience with UN agencies, international organizations, or NGOs is preferred.
Skills
Demonstrated expertise in project development areas. Strong writing, communication, and negotiation skills. Knowledge of project budgeting is desirable. Familiarity with IOM/UN human resources and financial policies. Ability to work in a team, excellent organization, analytical, and creative thinking skills. High accuracy and ability to work under pressure. Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
