The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN-related agency focused on promoting humane and orderly migration. It works with governments and partners to save lives, protect migrants, and facilitate legal pathways. This role supports the development of international standards for human trafficking administrative data, contributing to evidence-based policy and practice.
Job Purpose
This role is designed to support the development and implementation of the first international standards and guidance for human trafficking administrative data. The Data Scientist Programme Support Officer will play a key part in creating and rolling out these standards, which will inform the production of new evidence-based insights. By contributing to the development of these crucial data frameworks, the position aims to enhance IOM's capacity to address human trafficking through robust data analysis and informed policy recommendations, ultimately supporting efforts to protect vulnerable populations and promote safe migration.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include contributing to the development of international standards for human trafficking data, covering definition, collection, management, and safe use. This involves supporting consultative processes with government agencies and NGOs, and coordinating with IOM and UNODC offices. The role will also assist in developing and publishing a training curriculum for governments based on these standards, ensuring complementarity with existing IOM capacity-building programs. Facilitating training sessions for stakeholders and supporting the expansion of the CTDC platform by integrating new datasets are also core duties. Additionally, the position will contribute to the production of new knowledge products and research outputs, coordinate research cooperation, and perform other assigned duties.
Work Experience
Required experience includes research and data analysis (quantitative and qualitative methods), supporting data-related projects (collection, processing, reporting), contributing to knowledge products, and engaging with stakeholders through consultations or trainings. Experience with human trafficking is preferred.
Skills
Demonstrated research background with quantitative and qualitative analysis skills. Strong drafting and reporting abilities for technical documents.
