Job Purpose
The Research Officer (World Migration Report) is responsible for the development, design, preparation, and coordination of IOM's flagship World Migration Report (WMR) series. This involves drafting key sections, co-authoring thematic chapters, and ensuring the quality and accuracy of the report's content. The role contributes to IOM's mission by producing rigorous migration research and data, supporting evidence-based policymaking, and enhancing the organization's capacity to address global migration challenges. The position also involves contributing to WMR dissemination and outreach activities to maximize the report's impact.
Responsibilities
Support the development, design, preparation, and coordination of the World Migration Report (WMR) series, collaborating with internal and external contributors. Draft key sections and co-author thematic chapters, ensuring data accuracy and providing necessary research support. Contribute to the development of WMR interactive tools and toolkits. Assist in WMR dissemination and outreach activities, including webpage content, social media, and events. Support the creation of online knowledge management tools and webinar series to promote the use of migration research. Provide technical guidance to regional and country offices on migration research outputs. Assist in writing, proof-reading, editing, and formatting research products. Organize and support internal knowledge-sharing activities on research. Undertake duty travel as required for WMR promotion and dissemination.
Work Experience
Demonstrated experience in writing papers, briefings, and articles on migration, with a publishing record being an asset. Experience in conducting migration research and presenting findings to diverse audiences. Proven ability to explain complex migration information and data. Experience collaborating with teams and external partners to achieve common goals.
Skills
Excellent research, writing, communication, and analytical skills. Strong drafting abilities in English, with attention to detail. Ability to prepare clear and concise reports. Team-oriented with capacity for independent work. Strong organizational and time management skills. Understanding of migration issues. Good computer literacy.
