VN Mobility: Policy Officer
Organizational Context
Established in 1951, IOM is a UN-related organization and the leading agency in migration. It promotes humane and orderly migration, saves lives, protects people on the move, and facilitates regular migration pathways. This role operates within the Migration Policy Division, supporting the development of institutional strategic migration policy advice and strengthening policy capacity.
Job Purpose
This Policy Officer role supports the development of institutional strategic migration policy advice, drawing on knowledge from across IOM. The position contributes to strengthening the organization's policy capacity and provides overall support for the realization of IOM's Strategic Vision and Advocacy and Policy Priorities. The role involves close coordination with Regional and Country Offices, as well as Headquarters Departments, to ensure comprehensive and effective policy development and implementation. The purpose is to enhance IOM's ability to provide evidence-based policy guidance and support to governments and migrants globally.
Responsibilities
Contribute to policy advisory and technical support for IOM Country and Regional Offices, including policy analysis and review. Support the implementation of the IOM Policy Agenda by coordinating priority migration policy processes. Develop policy intelligence, foresight, and analytical products to inform evidence-based policymaking. Support the implementation of Migration Governance Indicators (MGI) and related data initiatives. Draft and review high-quality policy papers, technical guidance, and reports. Coordinate with HQ Divisions, Regional, and Country Offices to promote coherence and collaboration. Support the design and delivery of capacity-building activities and technical assistance. Contribute to proposal development, donor reporting, and partnership building. Participate in relevant meetings and consultations.
Work Experience
Experience in supporting migration policy development, governance processes, public policy analysis, or related advisory work at national, regional, or international levels. Desirable experience includes supporting technical assistance, capacity-building initiatives, workshops, policy dialogues, government engagement, partnership development, project development, or programme management.
Skills
Demonstrated analytical and organizational skills, ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure. First-rate drafting skills for policy papers. Communication, stakeholder engagement, and relationship-building skills. Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team. IT proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of migration governance frameworks and policy processes.
