Job Purpose
The Project Officer (Labour Mobility and Social Inclusion) supports the implementation of activities within the IOM Cameroon Country Office's Labour Mobility and Social Inclusion Unit. This role provides crucial technical and operational support for project-funded interventions focused on labour migration, migration and trade, skills development, business and human rights, migrant inclusion, and access to decent work. The position is instrumental in ensuring project activities align with IOM's global frameworks, regional priorities, and national development objectives, contributing to the delivery of project outputs at both national and regional levels.
Responsibilities
The Project Officer will support the full project cycle for donor-funded projects within the Labour Mobility and Social Inclusion Unit, ensuring timely delivery of outputs and indicators. This includes managing project implementation, administrative coordination, and updating work plans and monitoring tools. The role involves providing technical support for interventions in ethical recruitment, skills partnerships, private sector engagement, and diaspora contributions. Responsibilities also include supporting socio-economic inclusion activities, integrating cross-cutting priorities like gender equality and youth empowerment, and supervising project staff and consultants. The officer will coordinate with internal units for resource management and reporting, prepare donor deliverables, and conduct monitoring and evaluation activities. Maintaining stakeholder relationships and identifying operational risks are also key duties.
Work Experience
Progressive professional experience in labour migration, skills development, employment, or social inclusion fields, with demonstrated application in African contexts. Proven experience in project coordination, results-based management, and donor reporting is essential. Hands-on experience engaging with government authorities, regional institutions, UN agencies, and private sector actors in Africa is required. Experience in Central Africa or supporting regional initiatives is a plus.
Skills
Solid technical knowledge of labour mobility, migration governance, and employment systems, particularly within African contexts. Familiarity with UN policies and donor-funded programmes. Strong analytical, drafting, coordination, and stakeholder engagement skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in deadline-driven environments.
