Job Purpose
The Project Development Officer (MECC) supports IOM's intervention on climate mobility in West and Central Africa, working under the direct supervision of the Regional Thematic Specialist on Migration Environment and Climate Change (MECC RTS). The role focuses on policy development, youth engagement, and strengthening partnerships with governments and other stakeholders. Key activities include supporting project development and review, organizing events, contributing to publications, monitoring climate mobility programming, and facilitating capacity-building initiatives. The position aims to enhance IOM's engagement and response to climate mobility challenges in the region, aligning with State-expressed needs for policy guidance and evidence-based solutions.
Responsibilities
The Project Development Officer will support the MECC RTS in coordinating, developing, and reporting on IOM's climate mobility interventions in West and Central Africa. This includes assisting Country Offices in designing and developing new projects, identifying funding opportunities, and liaising with government entities, partners, UN agencies, and other stakeholders. The role involves contributing to the planning and delivery of capacity-building activities for staff, partners, and government officials on environmental migration and data. Additionally, the officer will manage financial, logistical, administrative, and technical tasks according to IOM policies, oversee consultants, and perform other assigned duties.
Work Experience
Desired experience includes working on climate change, disaster risk reduction, livelihood adaptation, green job creation, or climate-smart agriculture. Experience in project management, implementation, financial management, and monitoring and evaluation is preferable. Capacity building experience with governmental and non-governmental actors is an asset, as is previous experience with international organizations, particularly on migration issues.
Skills
Ability to contribute to project development and resource mobilization, including drafting technical proposals and identifying funding opportunities. Familiarity with UN agencies or similar international organizations is advantageous. Strong ability to engage and coordinate with government counterparts, UN agencies, and partners in a multicultural environment.
