Organizational Context

Job Purpose
The Associate Safeguards Information Analyst (State Declarations) plays a crucial role in supporting the IAEA's safeguards mandate by providing essential services for the collection, processing, analysis, and dissemination of information. This role specifically focuses on nuclear material accounting and Additional Protocol information submitted by States. By meticulously examining this data, the analyst contributes to identifying discrepancies, potential issues, and areas requiring further investigation, thereby supporting the overall integrity and effectiveness of international nuclear safeguards.
Responsibilities
The Associate Safeguards Information Analyst will analyze nuclear material accounting reports and Additional Protocol submissions for assigned States to understand the Section's work. Key duties include collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from State reports and declarations to identify discrepancies or areas needing follow-up. The role involves reconciling analysis results with other information to pinpoint technical issues, information gaps, and opportunities for process improvement. Additionally, the analyst will assist in developing and testing new data collection, analysis, and reporting methods, particularly for transferring analytical findings. Suggestions for optimizing databases, software usage, and material balance evaluations will be provided, along with drafting guidance materials and promoting knowledge sharing. Staying current with international safeguards developments related to State reporting is also essential.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience is required. This experience should be in areas such as nuclear material accounting, nuclear safeguards activities, nuclear research, or nuclear non-proliferation, encompassing information collection, processing, and analytical techniques.
Skills
Analytical skills for information integration and reporting; knowledge of nuclear material accounting and safeguards agreements; basic understanding of the nuclear fuel cycle and non-proliferation; excellent oral and written English communication.
