Organizational Context

The Department of Safeguards functions as the IAEA's global nuclear inspectorate, dedicated to preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons. Within this department, the Office of Information and Communication Systems (SGIS) provides secure ICT services essential for the Department's mandate, including developing and maintaining specialized ICT solutions and ensuring resilient infrastructure.

Job Purpose

The Associate Software Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting and implementing software solutions and systems that enhance organizational business processes. This position involves applying technical expertise to maintain diverse information systems within an agile framework. The role contributes to the Development Section by performing software engineering tasks across the entire development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and architecture design to implementation, testing, and ongoing maintenance, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, secure software solutions.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include collaborating with team members and stakeholders to define requirements and technical specifications for software solutions. The role involves designing and implementing software in alignment with architectural and development guidelines, including the Safeguards Digital Design System. Additionally, the Associate Software Engineer will provide maintenance and technical support for existing software systems, prepare necessary documentation, and assist with user acceptance testing and training. Collaboration with other IT specialists and active contribution to projects and continuous improvement initiatives are also integral to this position.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of relevant experience is required, specifically in developing web and/or data-driven applications. This includes experience with web development technologies, programming languages like Python or .Net/C#, relational database management software and SQL, and agile methodologies.

Skills

Proficiency in secure coding techniques and information security. Understanding of software engineering processes and the software development lifecycle. Experience with web development technologies. Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. Client orientation and commitment to continuous process improvement are also essential.
