Knowledge Management Officer (Forest Monitoring)
Organizational Context
The Forestry Division (NFO) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy, leads efforts in promoting sustainable forest management and its environmental, social, and economic dimensions. It focuses on the role of forests in poverty reduction, food security, and nutrition, engaging with members, civil society, and the private sector. The Division disseminates information on global forest resources and products, supporting policy development, conservation, and climate change adaptation. The Forest Monitoring and Data Platforms (NFOMD) Team specifically supports members in forest monitoring for policy development, sustainable management, and international reporting requirements.
Job Purpose
The Knowledge Management Officer (Forest Monitoring) will lead knowledge management, programmatic, advocacy, and outreach activities for the Forest Monitoring and Data Platforms Team. Key responsibilities include collecting, analyzing, and disseminating knowledge and information to support various programs, projects, products, and services. This involves undertaking analysis, providing technical input for plans and reports, and editing technical documents. The role also entails participating in multidisciplinary teams, developing training materials, organizing workshops, and supporting the production of communication materials like videos, publications, and web content to enhance the visibility and outreach of departmental products.
Responsibilities
The incumbent will design and implement knowledge management and outreach strategies for the Forest Monitoring and Data Platforms Team, advising on strengthening these activities in consultation with communications focal points. This includes coordinating the preparation of knowledge products and events, supervising consultants, and supporting workshop and meeting preparations. The role involves liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure coordinated outreach and promotion efforts, and regularly implementing and updating work plans for knowledge management and outreach, reporting on progress and results. The officer will also draft, edit, and disseminate promotional videos, webcasts, project publications, posters, and brochures, and assist with documenting international events using various media tools.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant experience is required in communication, graphic design for technical publications and visual materials, and the production of high-resolution videos for international events. Experience in more than one work location or area, especially in field positions, is desirable.
Skills
Essential skills include extensive experience in outreach and knowledge management related to forest monitoring, and working with multi-partner projects and multidisciplinary teams. Strong experience in developing high-quality communication and outreach materials for international audiences is crucial. Experience in organizing high-level events, technical workshops, seminars, and press conferences is also important. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required. Knowledge of graphic design and video editing tools is considered an asset.
