Organizational Context
The Office of Climate Change, Biodiversity and Environment (OCB) at FAO in Rome, Italy, addresses global challenges in climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation. It coordinates responses, acts as a focal point for major environmental agreements, and assists members in tackling interlinked issues of food security and environmental financing. OCB also hosts key programmes like the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) and the Secretariat of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA).
Job Purpose
This role is responsible for the daily operations of the ITPGRFA Corporate Website and its digital assets. Key duties include timely publication of multilingual web content and official meeting documentation, ensuring reliable data and online reports, and enhancing user experience and stakeholder engagement. The position supports communications efficacy and ROI insights by developing, testing, and debugging FAO websites using the corporate CMS, and providing direct support for the preparation and dissemination of official documents in line with FAO guidelines. It involves collecting and analyzing programme data to generate reports and dashboards, contributing to improved content production workflows, and maintaining web pages for quality and consistency.
Responsibilities
Develops, tests, and debugs FAO websites using the corporate Web Content Management System (SiteFinity), collaborating with the OCC Web team. Provides support for preparing, publishing, and disseminating official documents and information products for meetings and conferences, adhering to FAO's writing style, visual identity, and web policies. Collects, analyzes, and structures programme data to generate dashboards and reports aligned with corporate analytics standards and the Treaty's communication needs, synthesizing insights for continuous improvement. Contributes to developing and refining tools, methods, and workflows for content production, web publishing, and data handling. Maintains and updates databases, registries, and web pages, ensuring quality, consistency, and version control. Participates in multidisciplinary teams, contributing to training materials and organizing workshops/webinars. Supports the organization, conduct, and follow-up of meetings, consultations, and conferences, including material development and timely web updates. Implements front-end updates on the ITPGRFA website, refining page templates and ensuring accessibility, multilingual consistency, metadata, tagging, and basic SEO. Supports digital workflows for Governing Body documentation, ensuring adherence to corporate editorial, branding, and records standards. Assists in data extraction, cleaning, and analysis for operational and programmatic data, preparing tables, visuals, and online reports. Supports communications and outreach activities, designing feedback mechanisms and synthesizing insights for improvement. Contributes to maintaining and improving Treaty-related information systems, providing user guidance and coordinating fixes with technical counterparts. Ensures timely web publication of decisions and materials, maintaining content calendars and status dashboards. Applies corporate standards for accessibility, multilingual content, data protection, open data, and web security, performing routine checks.
Work Experience
Requires at least three years of relevant international experience in digital and documentation management support. Experience in supporting multilingual web content on enterprise Content Management Systems (e.g., Sitefinity, Drupal, SharePoint) and coordinating web publishing workflows is highly desirable. Proven skills in web editing, front-end updates (HTML/CSS basics, image optimization, accessibility checks), and applying information architecture are essential. Experience with data collection, cleaning, and descriptive analysis, as well as producing online reporting pages, is also important.
Skills
Proficiency in supporting multilingual web content on enterprise Content Management Systems and coordinating web publishing workflows. Skills in web editing, front-end updates (HTML/CSS basics, image optimization, accessibility checks), and information architecture (navigation, taxonomy, tagging). Experience with data collection, cleaning, and descriptive analysis (e.g., Excel/Power Query, basic data visualization) for online reporting. Familiarity with document production standards for intergovernmental processes and records/web archiving practices. Experience supporting technical programmes for biodiversity or plant genetic resources for food and agriculture. Ability to support stakeholders and users, collect feedback, and translate it into content and UX improvements. Knowledge of FAO publishing/web standards and Treaty-related portals is an asset. Knowledge of JavaScript, CSS frameworks, and C# development is desirable.
