Organizational Context

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for promoting international cooperation in meteorology and operational hydrology. This position supports the Global Cryosphere Watch (GCW) initiative, which aims to strengthen cryosphere monitoring and services globally.

Job Purpose

To support the implementation of the Global Cryosphere Watch (GCW) by strengthening engagement with Members, improving the integration of cryosphere observations and datasets within WIGOS and WIS 2.0, and supporting the redevelopment of the GCW website on the WMO web platform.

Responsibilities

Support the revitalization of the Global Cryosphere Watch (GCW) National Focal Point network through regular engagement with Members and partner organizations. Support the identification and documentation of priority cryosphere observations and datasets for inclusion in WIGOS and WIS 2.0, working with Members and technical experts to enhance their integration and discoverability. Support the migration and redevelopment of the GCW website on the WMO web platform in collaboration with the WMO Communications Office. Perform other related duties as required.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in cryosphere science, Earth system science, meteorology, hydrology, environmental monitoring, Earth observations, data management, or a related field is required. Experience working with international scientific or technical programmes, observational networks, or environmental data systems is desirable. Experience with WIGOS, WIS 2.0, web content management, or coordination with international organizations would be an advantage.
