Organizational Context

The Special Envoy for the UN Secretary-General on Climate Action and Finance (SOFF) is a dedicated fund established by the UN to address the needs of climate-vulnerable countries. The SOFF Secretariat, hosted by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), is responsible for the operational and administrative functions of the fund. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in climate finance, fund management, and international development within a UN specialized agency.

Job Purpose

To support the SOFF Secretariat in its operational activities, including monitoring and reporting on fund implementation, managing databases, and providing overall administrative support. The intern will gain practical experience in climate finance and portfolio management within a UN context.

Responsibilities

1. Support the monitoring and administration of SOFF Readiness phase outputs in coordination with the WMO Technical Authority. 2. Assist in monitoring and reporting on the implementation of SOFF Readiness and Investment phase, including supporting progress report analysis, reviewing funding requests via the UNMPTF Gateway platform, tracking implementation progress and reporting requirements, and compiling operational data. 3. Assist in maintaining and updating the SOFF Operations Database and SOFF Learning platform. 4. Provide overall support to SOFF operational activities as required.

Work Experience

Experience in climate change related projects or programmes. Experience in development projects or climate finance, especially in developing countries, is an advantage. Experience working in international contexts is also beneficial. Strong writing and communication skills in English are required.

Skills

Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively. Interest in climate change, meteorology, or international development is an advantage.
