Organizational Context
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for promoting international cooperation in meteorology (weather and climate), operational hydrology and the related geophysical sciences. This role is within the Division of Hydrology and Cryosphere, focusing on coordinating updates to key publications and contributing to strategic plans in hydrology.
Job Purpose
To coordinate the update of key hydrological publications, contribute to strategic planning in hydrology, support global water processes, and assist in project development, ensuring alignment with WMO's strategic objectives.
Responsibilities
Coordinate the update of key hydrological publications (Guide to Hydrological Practices, International Glossary for Hydrology). Coordinate contributions to strategic plans (WMO Plan of Action for Hydrology, Annual Operating Plan). Contribute to the preparation of official documents and support Secretariat focal points. Support global water processes, including the UN Water Conference, and liaise with partners. Assist in data collection, analysis, reporting, and outreach related to hydrology and cryosphere. Assist project officers in developing project proposals and concept notes. Perform other relevant duties as required.
Work Experience
Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in coordinating technical activities or publications within the UN or a similar multi-stakeholder environment. Experience coordinating with multiple partners and Member States is an advantage. Familiarity with WMO's structure and procedures is desirable.
Skills
Strong analytical skills. Ability to independently coordinate and monitor activity progress. Knowledge of climate/water/weather services is an advantage.
