Organizational Context
The PCT Operations Division is responsible for the receipt, formalities examination, publication, and communication of international patent applications. It delivers high-quality customer services to PCT users in all 10 official PCT publication languages. The post is situated within PCT Client Service Teams 5, 6, and 9, under PCT Operations Service 1.
Job Purpose
The incumbent will provide customer services to applicants and offices, and perform processing and formalities examination duties for international patent applications in at least two languages. This involves reaching out to clients as instructed, ensuring applications meet formality requirements, and maintaining high standards of service delivery. The role supports the efficient operation of the PCT system by ensuring accurate and timely processing of patent applications and related documents.
Responsibilities
The incumbent will identify repetitive defects for clients, communicate with senior advisors, and reach out to clients. They will examine international applications in at least two languages for formality requirements, ensuring conformity with standards. This includes processing, data entry, checking for completeness, acknowledging receipt, and following up. Complex issues will be escalated. High-level customer service will be provided, responding to queries promptly and liaising with users and authorities. Publication preparation and review will be conducted to meet deadlines. Participation in team meetings, process improvement, customer support for electronic services, and testing of PCT systems may also be required.
Work Experience
At least two years of relevant professional experience with patents, including an IP office or comparable environment. Experience with formalities examination of patent applications and customer service is desirable.
Skills
Ability to communicate effectively with technical and business professionals. Good understanding of PCT rules and procedures, with ability to explain them. Strong IT skills for document processing, data management, and search. Client orientation with a focus on high-quality service. Ability to work efficiently under deadlines with attention to detail. Initiative, teamwork, and integrity are essential. Excellent interpersonal skills for multicultural environments.
