Program Officer
Organizational Context
The position is within the Office of the Deputy Director General, Brands and Designs Sector (BDS). BDS is responsible for international law development concerning trademarks, industrial designs, and geographical indications, and administers related international registration systems. The Deputy Director General also oversees the WIPO Office in China and related funds-in-trust.
Job Purpose
The incumbent supports the Deputy Director General of the Brands and Designs Sector by managing engagements and communications with internal and external stakeholders. This involves actively developing stakeholder relationships and contributing to the formulation and implementation of programs and initiatives. The primary goal is to enhance the international registration systems, with a particular focus on key major markets, especially China. The role requires close coordination with various WIPO departments and the WIPO Office in China to ensure effective delivery of the Sector's work.
Responsibilities
The Program Officer will support the Deputy Director General in engaging with Member States, particularly China, to promote intellectual property and WIPO services. This includes planning, implementing, and evaluating Sector activities and initiatives in China. The role involves developing and coordinating institutional relationships with Chinese authorities and organizations to foster cooperation and enhance WIPO's visibility. The incumbent will prepare promotional materials, briefing documents, and correspondence for senior-level engagement. Additionally, they will provide logistical and substantive support for diplomatic engagements with China, maintain stakeholder contacts, and support follow-up actions. Participation in international events and outreach activities is also required.
Work Experience
At least six years of relevant professional experience at national and international levels, including international diplomacy and outreach. Experience with cooperation programs and policy development in China is required. Experience working with senior management or in a front office environment is desirable.
