Organizational Context

The Spanish Translation Section within WIPO's Language Division is responsible for high-quality language services, including translation of treaties, legislative texts, and official documents, as well as interpretation for member state meetings. The Division supports WIPO's mission through comprehensive language support.

Job Purpose

The Head of the Spanish Translation Section provides strategic leadership and manages daily operations, focusing on digital transformation and innovative solutions for high-quality, cost-effective, and timely Spanish translations. This role champions the integration of artificial intelligence, machine translation, and other language technologies, ensuring best practices and continuous improvement align with WIPO's strategic objectives. The incumbent drives efficiency and quality through technological advancements and effective team management.

Responsibilities

Lead the digital transformation of the Spanish Translation Section by integrating AI, NMT, CATT tools, and TMS, managing change to foster innovation. Develop and implement a strategic vision focused on efficiency, cost optimization, and quality enhancement, using data analytics and KPIs for decision-making. Oversee translation, revision, editing, MTPE, and terminology work, allocating resources for timely and cost-effective delivery. Manage and evaluate staff performance, providing mentorship and capacity-building. Revise complex texts, translate sensitive documents, and make authoritative linguistic decisions. Supervise terminology and knowledge management, promoting best practices and institutional memory. Ensure standardized use of AI-based translation technologies and collaborate with technology teams for seamless implementation of new tools and workflows.

Work Experience

At least ten years of professional experience in translation, editing, revision, MTPE, and using CATT tools and TMS, preferably in international organizations. Demonstrated experience in staff supervision, performance management, and leading technology adoption initiatives in a language services environment.

Skills

Excellent managerial and leadership skills, strong change management capabilities, and ability to manage multiple priorities. Advanced translation and revision skills with knowledge of quality standards and specialized terminology. Proficiency in translation technology (NMT, TMS, CATT tools). Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder management.
