Organizational Context

The Building Projects Section oversees campus renovations, modernizing spaces and upgrading infrastructure. This role is within the Administration, Finance and Management Sector, focusing on major renovations and technical infrastructure upgrades. The section manages a portfolio of capital renovation projects requiring expert oversight.

Job Purpose

The Senior Project Engineer provides specialized technical leadership for WIPO’s building modernizations and energy transition initiatives, particularly integrating the campus into the SIG GeniLac network. This role acts as the primary technical authority, bridging complex infrastructure projects with the needs of an operational international organization. The incumbent is accountable for delivering sustainable, modernized infrastructure without disrupting WIPO’s business continuity, filling a critical need for high-level technical oversight and contract management.

Responsibilities

Conduct surveys and feasibility studies for technical systems, defining strategies and requirements for complex building projects. Monitor and coordinate studies, reviewing drawings and specifications for compliance with standards and WIPO requirements. Lead technical evaluations for contract awards, defining procurement strategies and negotiating terms. Oversee implementation, managing contract performance and verifying work against specifications. Ensure coordination with operations and security for business continuity. Participate in commissioning and handover, monitoring defect resolution. Manage project finances, including budget forecasting and expenditure monitoring. Report on progress, risks, and deliverables, mitigating bottlenecks.

Work Experience

At least seven years of relevant professional experience in planning, design, and implementation of building services projects. Extensive experience in construction project management and multi-disciplinary technical coordination. Desirable experience includes large-scale renovations in occupied sites and knowledge of Swiss building regulations.

Skills

Extensive knowledge of building services (HVAC, electrical, sanitary, BMS). Strong understanding of business continuity. In-depth knowledge of design and construction principles, building codes. Strong contract and project management skills. Excellent communication of technical information. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Working knowledge of CAD and project planning tools.
