Organizational Context
The WHO Health Emergencies Programme aims to strengthen Member States' capacity to manage health risks and coordinate international responses to outbreaks and health emergencies. This role operates within the WHO Representative's Office in Sudan, contributing to the program's mission in the region.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to coordinate the procurement, import, storage, and delivery of essential medicines and medical products within Sudan. This involves ensuring efficient warehouse management, accurate inventory control, and adherence to WHO's good storage and distribution practices. The position also supports the evaluation of pharmaceutical needs, forecasting, and contingency planning for essential medicines. Furthermore, it involves collaborating with government institutions for customs clearance and quality control, and monitoring the supply pipeline to improve access and availability of medicines, thereby minimizing stock-outs and supporting public health emergency response efforts.
Responsibilities
Coordinate the logistics for procurement, import, storage, and delivery of medicines and medical products. Manage warehouse operations, including inventory control and ensuring storage conditions meet WHO guidelines for good storage and distribution practices. This includes monitoring product quality, cold chain management, stock records, controlled medicines, waste management, and stock rotation using FEFO/FIFO principles. Conduct analyses to assess pharmaceutical needs, forecast requirements, and plan for essential medicines. Train healthcare staff and partners on national medicines policies, rational drug use, storage, dispensing, and supply chain management. Support local and international procurement processes for pharmaceuticals and health technologies, identifying suppliers and ensuring compliance with WHO regulations. Facilitate customs clearance and quality control with government bodies. Monitor and plan the distribution of WHO-procured medical supplies to ensure timely access and availability, minimizing stock-outs.
Work Experience
A minimum of one year of experience in national drug policy programs and administration is required. Experience in public health, emergency management, or with UN organizations, international institutions, or NGOs is considered an asset.
Skills
Knowledge of WHO mandate, goals, procedures, and policies. Ability to prepare clear and concise documents. Expertise in pharmaceutical sector management, drug regulation, and supply chain management. Ability to develop pharmaceutical policies and strategies. Capacity to work independently and under pressure, delivering quality results amidst competing priorities. Proficiency in English and Arabic.
