Organizational Context
The World Health Organization (WHO) in the Democratic Republic of Congo is responding to national health emergencies. This role supports the WHO's emergency program, which aims to prevent, prepare for, detect, and respond to outbreaks and health emergencies. The position is based in Kinshasa and contributes to national capacity building and coordination of medical care during crises.
Job Purpose
The Expert in Medical Care (PEC) will support the WHO's emergency response in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This role is crucial for managing medical care during health emergencies, including epidemic situations and routine clinical emergencies. The incumbent will collaborate with national authorities and partners to ensure quality patient care, develop clinical activities in treatment centers, and strengthen national capacities. This involves training staff, contributing to the development of response plans and tools, and advocating for resources to support medical interventions. The position aims to enhance the country's ability to effectively manage and respond to health crises.
Responsibilities
Develop clinical activities in various treatment centers, ensuring quality standards and optimized supportive care in line with WHO recommendations. Maintain close collaboration with other working groups and clusters, particularly health and protection. Represent WHO in inter-cluster coordination meetings related to medical care. Contribute to the design of training materials and conduct capacity-building activities for national emergency response teams and government stakeholders. Provide technical and financial input for humanitarian response plans and relevant strategies. Advocate for resource mobilization to support medical care interventions. Assist in updating and developing medical care tools for national and provincial use. Perform other related tasks as requested by supervisors.
Work Experience
Essential: At least one year of experience in medical care for internal medicine patients, including clinical case management in emergency or humanitarian contexts. Desirable: Experience in managing Ebola or other viral hemorrhagic fever cases as a frontline clinician in a treatment center.
