Consultants UPDATING THE NATIONAL MENTAL HEALTH STRATEGY OF SUDAN
Organizational Context
Sudan is experiencing a severe humanitarian crisis due to ongoing conflict, impacting millions and severely disrupting the health system. Mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services are limited, with a strained workforce and inadequate access to care. The Federal Ministry of Health, with WHO support, has made progress, but gaps in coordination and strategic direction remain.
Job Purpose
This role provides crucial technical support to the Federal Ministry of Health and WHO Sudan to update the National Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Strategy. The objective is to review the existing strategy, identify gaps and priorities, and incorporate relevant opportunities within the mental health system. This will be achieved through active consultation with stakeholders, including partners, WHO, and the Federal Ministry of Health. The updated strategy will guide future investments, enhance coordination, and support a more effective and sustainable response to the growing mental health needs in Sudan, particularly in the context of the ongoing crisis.
Responsibilities
The consultant will conduct a comprehensive review of the existing National Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Strategy and related documents. This includes identifying key gaps, priorities, and areas needing attention within the current strategy. The consultant will support the process of updating the strategy by compiling proposed revisions and facilitating stakeholder consultations. This involves working closely with the Federal Ministry of Health and WHO Sudan to gather input and ensure the revised strategy reflects current needs and opportunities. The role requires active engagement with partners and other stakeholders to inform the strategy's development and ensure its relevance and effectiveness in addressing Sudan's mental health challenges.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of one year of relevant experience in mental health policy, strategy development, and humanitarian settings. Experience with Ministries of Health, WHO, or UN agencies is necessary. Experience in reviewing and updating health or mental health technical documents is also required. Knowledge of the Sudan context and health system is an asset.
Skills
Proven knowledge and experience in mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), including policy and strategy development. Experience in reviewing and updating technical documents. Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills. Familiarity with WHO guidance and public health approaches to mental health is desirable. Knowledge of the Sudan context is an asset.
