Organizational Context
The World Health Organization (WHO) office in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is seeking an exceptional photographer-videographer to support its vital health and humanitarian interventions during the Ebola epidemic response. This role is crucial for documenting WHO's initiatives, communicating their impact, and raising awareness of public health challenges within the country.
Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this role is to create high-quality visual content that showcases the WHO's activities, achievements, and impact throughout the Ebola response in the DRC. The photographer/videographer will collaborate closely with the WHO's external communications team to ensure accurate representation and effective storytelling. Specific objectives include producing photos and videos highlighting response efforts, providing a visual asset bank for WHO, contributing to digital campaigns, conducting interviews, and documenting post-response outcomes and lessons learned. The role also involves creating video scripts on health-related topics in collaboration with country and regional communication units.
Responsibilities
The photographer-videographer will work under the direct supervision of the Country Office Communications Officer and field team leaders. Responsibilities include traveling to affected areas to capture photos and videos of WHO and partner response activities, such as surveillance, case management, infection prevention, and vaccination efforts. The role involves documenting medical supplies, healthcare strengthening, psychosocial support, and community engagement. The incumbent will also be responsible for conducting interviews and collecting testimonials from survivors and experts, documenting post-response successes and lessons learned, and creating video scripts on health topics. This includes managing visual resources, ensuring accurate representation, and adhering to WHO's communication standards and guidelines.
Work Experience
The role requires experience in creating compelling visual narratives, producing explanatory videos, and adapting content for social media, websites, and publications. Proficiency in conducting interviews, collecting relevant testimonials, and managing visual resources (collection, storage, transmission) is necessary. Experience with professional photographic and videographic equipment and editing software is also required.
