SSA Assistant Supply Chain - G5 (MVE-Bunia)

Organizational Context

The World Health Organization (WHO) is responding to an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2026. A Supply Chain support structure is established in Bunia to ensure the provision and logistical support for operational and medical activities in the Ituri province and affected areas. This unit collaborates closely with teams in Kinshasa, field bases, UN partners, and other humanitarian actors.

Job Purpose

The Assistant Supply Chain (G5), under the direct supervision of the Supply Chain Officer/Manager, provides operational and administrative support for daily supply chain activities. This includes order tracking, inventory management, delivery coordination, logistical monitoring, and document management. The role is crucial for ensuring the timely availability of essential equipment, medical supplies, and materials required for the Ebola emergency response, contributing directly to the effectiveness of the WHO's operational and medical efforts in the region. The position supports the smooth functioning of supply chain operations to meet the urgent needs of the response.

Responsibilities

Manage procurement processes by tracking purchase requests and orders, verifying documentation, and updating order status. Maintain accurate inventory records, monitor stock movements, and ensure proper storage and handling of supplies. Coordinate logistics and transportation, including tracking shipments, managing transit documents, and arranging material movements to operational bases. Support administrative tasks by ensuring the proper filing and archiving of supply chain documents according to UN procedures. Assist operational teams in preparing and following up on supply requests. Report any stock shortages or anomalies promptly to the supervisor. Collaborate with logistics and transport partners to ensure efficient execution of operations.

Work Experience

Experience in logistics and supply chain procedures is required. Proficiency in IT tools and data management systems (Excel, ERP, logistics tracking systems) is necessary. Experience working in an emergency environment and under pressure is also required. Good organizational and communication skills are essential.
