Job Purpose
The Technical Officer (Expanded Programme in Immunization) will provide crucial technical support to Member States in developing and implementing their immunization plans. This role involves advising on the evaluation and monitoring of immunization activities, supporting vaccination campaigns, and ensuring the availability of essential vaccines and supplies. The position contributes to strengthening national health systems by analyzing immunization data, supporting vaccine research, developing capacity-building programs, and liaising with national and international partners to harmonize strategies for vaccine-preventable diseases. The ultimate goal is to enhance universal access to quality immunization services and improve public health outcomes.
Responsibilities
Provide technical support for the development and monitoring of Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) plans. Assist Member States in planning and organizing vaccination campaigns. Develop work plans, budgets, and resource mobilization strategies for immunization programs. Ensure the availability of vaccines, equipment, and injection materials. Analyze EPI data to assess the impact of new vaccines and propose project proposals for system strengthening. Support vaccine research and clinical trials. Develop and implement capacity-building programs for immunization and vaccine development. Serve as a technical resource on immunization, epidemics, and public health emergencies. Develop and disseminate guidelines for vaccine impact evaluation. Collaborate with Member States to transition surveillance systems to government support. Liaise with national counterparts, WHO departments, and partners to harmonize policies and secure funding. Represent WHO in relevant meetings.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible professional experience in immunization and vaccine development programs, including international exposure. Demonstrated experience in supporting Member States and evaluating vaccine-preventable diseases and immunization programs is essential. Experience in a developing country or with international organizations like WHO is desirable.

Sound knowledge of country-level immunization programs and vaccine-preventable diseases. Ability to manage and develop immunization programs, understanding country needs and WHO policies.
