Job Purpose
The Procurement Assistant supports the WHO country office in Egypt by ensuring the efficient and compliant procurement of goods and services for various technical and emergency programs. This role is crucial for maintaining the integrity and effectiveness of WHO's operations, ensuring timely delivery of necessary resources, and supporting the implementation of country cooperation strategies. The incumbent will manage local purchase requests, monitor procurement status, and assist in preparing necessary documentation and reports, all under the guidance of supervisors and in accordance with WHO procurement policies.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include participating in the procurement process for goods and services for technical and emergency programs, ensuring adherence to WHO guidelines, and verifying supporting documents and fund availability. The role involves initiating local purchase requests using GSM, monitoring their status, and ensuring timely delivery. Additionally, the Procurement Assistant will draft purchase order amendments, assist in preparing price estimates for non-catalogue items, and help draft bid invitations and adjudication reports. Maintaining the supplier database, preparing procurement reports, and initiating correspondence for data verification are also core duties. The position requires performing other related tasks as needed and covering for colleagues.
Work Experience
Essential: A minimum of three years of progressive experience in procurement. Desirable: Experience within the UN system is advantageous.
Skills
Proven knowledge of procurement regulations and procedures. Demonstrated negotiation skills. Very good organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines. Good analytical skills. Expert knowledge of English and Arabic. Very good knowledge of Microsoft applications. Knowledge of ERP/Oracle applications is an asset.
